Psychological assessment and testing provide
objective information to help with
diagnosis, treatment, and decisions more
quickly and accurately than otherwise
possible. This is because a person's
response patterns are compared to others who
are known to have certain traits or
disorders. When
well developed tests with proven validity
and reliability are used in psychological
assessment, they can help achieve goals
faster and more economically.
Assessment includes tests and their
interpretation, within the context of a
trained psychologist's observations and
recommendations. Test results can help
people and professionals who work with
them:
·
Diagnose
learning disorders, including LD and ADHD
and design accommodations for academic exams
and work related activities.
·
Determine
neurological damage from injuries and
illnesses.
·
Predict
whether one is a good candidate for
gastric bypass and other surgeries.
·
Develop a
career plan.
·
Increase
a couple's understanding of each other.
·
Diagnose
emotional problems, and plan psychotherapy.
There are many types of tests. Some tests
measure intelligence and specific abilities,
achievement, and interests. Some tests look
at personality traits and examine emotional
problems. Tests can compare people with
others and with themselves over time.
Testing is a means to an end and not the end
itself. It provides clarity and guidance in
making decisions.
Unlike tests in school, the goal is not to
obtain a high score, but to reveal problems
and strengths to optimize a person's
decision making power.
I am a very experienced licensed
psychologist specializing in assessment. I
use a variety of psychological tests to help
clients and assist professionals who are
treating them. In addition to English, I am
also fluent in Spanish.
I help
provide the benefits of psychological
assessment in a supportive manner. I use
statistical and clinical information in
tandem, in a comprehensive and integrated
biopsychosocial framework. I go beyond
the “bell curve” to understand data
especially if an individual does not fit
traditional mainstream standards and
cultural norms.
While my practice is primarily focused on psychological
assessment, I also use biofeedback to treat
stress-related disorders such as migraine
headaches, tension headaches, insomnia,
hypertension, gastrointestinal difficulties,
tinnitus, TMJ, anxiety, and muscle spasms.
I
have the latest
biofeedback equipment in my clinical
practice. I
also do short-term
psychotherapy as needed.
