About Dr. Merladet
I am a New York State licensed psychologist, who specializes in assessment. I
use a variety of psychological tests to help clients and assist professionals
who are treating them. In addition to
English, I am fluent in Spanish and can perform bilingual assessments.
My training includes earning a Ph.D. from
the University of Minnesota's Educational Psychology Department, specalizing in
Counseling Psychology. This program is Accredited by the American Psychological
Association. My doctoral dissertation examined IQ factors that predicted
graduation of college students with learning disabilities. I successfully
completed a clinical psychology internship at Mt. Sinai Services at Elmhurst
Hospital Center, which is also Accredited by the American Psychological
Association.
Prior to that, I earned a Masters degree
in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University, and have worked as
psychotherapist with couples, families children, adults for many years.
I also understand the
business world, with a M.B.A. in Accounting from Pace University and a B.B.A. in
Marketing from Baruch College and consultant experience with Fortune 500
companies. This understanding has created an excellent bridge for me to examine
the psychological world of individual preferences and career choice for clients
in career transition.
My
competencies include vocational and career assessment, personality assessment,
Rorschach and projective assessment, neuropsychological and dementia assessment,
IQ and cognitive assessment, educational and achievement assessment, and trauma
assessment. I also have experience with psychiatric consultation and
liaison to nursing homes, inpatient hospitals, and partial hospital settings. I
continue to update my skills with continuing education and supervised training,
specifically in testing and neuropsychological assessment.
I have participated in various
research studies, the most recent of which is a National Institute of Mental
Health study in which I am the primary neuropsychological evaluator for a
hospital. I have also participated as faculty: teaching psychiatric residents,
supervising psychology externs, and serving as an adjunct professor at Queens College.
I do presentations,
workshops, and publications for the professional community. I am a member of
the American Psychological
Association’s Clinical Neuropsychology Division and its Psychology in the Public
Service Division, and of the New York State Psychological Association. I am an
Affiliate Member in the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology and the
Physicians for Human Rights Asylum Project.
I am also
certified by the
Biofeedback Institute of America and have the latest biofeedback equipment in my
clinical practice.
